If I touch the bolt that connects the chassis to the cab, that hum stops. Unless you strike lucky, or exactly follow a proven arrangement, using the chassis metalwork as a conductor for circuit common can result in hum at the HT ripple frequency. Specifically see figs 15. The noise floor is significantly raised when you turn up With this 5E3 I like experimenting with new and old components and seeing what makes an obvious sonic difference aside from capacitor and resistor value changes. If I turn the tone pot (in any channel) it creates a hiss Would anyone be able to tell me what the problem is? I have a Cellestion Blue fitted so could it have burned out? It sounds fine apart from that note. I had ordered a second I finished this 5e3 build last week. Standard layout without Standby switch (Robinette's drawing) with the addition of his 3-way feedback switch, rectifier protection When the tone knob on my 5e3 clone is set at anything greater than 7 I can hear a "white noise"/shhhhh sound as soon as the volume knob for the bright channel is turned past I just went through this with my own 5e3 build, which was actually the first build I ever did, and took it from VERY noisy to VERY quiet. I did not buy a pre-fab chassis, rather I hammered a flat sheet of steel into 90-degree bends for the front and back Re: 5E3 hiss/buzz on max volume with no guitar? by theundeadelvis » Tue Nov 27, 2007 3:52 am When I built my 5E3 I had a very similar problem and it turned out to be the Re: 5E3 hiss/buzz on max volume with no guitar? by theundeadelvis » Tue Nov 27, 2007 3:52 am When I built my 5E3 I had a very similar problem and it turned out to be the Re: 5E3 hiss/buzz on max volume with no guitar? by theundeadelvis » Tue Nov 27, 2007 3:52 am When I built my 5E3 I had a very similar problem and it turned out to be the The Fender 5E3 Deluxe is a fantastic sounding classic tweed (1950's) amplifier and I encourage everyone to build it 'stock' and sample its tone before modifying its circuit (except the switched Re: 5E3 hiss/buzz on max volume with no guitar? by theundeadelvis » Tue Nov 27, 2007 3:52 am When I built my 5E3 I had a very similar problem and it turned out to be the . I could assume it is more benign than it is in person. Once I I will be building a 5E3 clone and notwithstanding all the above, what have folks found to be the optimal layout for minimal background humm and noise? Quality clone builders With all amp controls at zero there is a quiet hum. 12 and 15. A key point being that the amp’s circuit common is only connected to the chassis at the Now all that remains is a slight hiss that isn't all too bad, and the nagging feeling that my low DC voltages are robbing me of some volume and punch.
